JOB SUMMARY:


Position is responsible for all aspects of promoting Denison as a tourist destination by developing, planning, organizing, and overseeing tourism marketing and promotion programs to drive hotel and leisure sales and tax revenues. The Director must assume and display a leadership role in the development and execution of the long-term plan focusing on making Denison a premiere travel destination.  The Director must be a personable, creative, accountable, and collaborative professional that is team oriented with the goal of promoting tourism in Denison.  The Director works closely with the Main Street Director, Chamber of Commerce President, and other community and industry stakeholders in all aspects of work including the Texoma Health Foundation Park.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Create, manage and implement a comprehensive marketing strategy to define and capitalize on Denison’s identity as a tourist destination that optimizes potential impact on overall tourism revenues generated in the City.
  • Develop, implement and manage short- and long-term strategic goals and performance measures for ROI tourism spending of the Denison Convention and Visitors Bureau.
  • Provide staff support and leadership for the Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) Board and provide communication between the CVB Board, City Council, City Manager, community partners and industry organizations.
  • Manage administrative aspects of CVB program including purchasing, record keeping, budget development and accounting and report preparation.
  • Formulate and implement an annual marketing/business plan to develop and promote Denison to key target markets.
  • Conduct appropriate research to ensure proper decision making in market, product development, and advocacy strategies and programs.
  • Identify and market to local, regional, state organizations and recruit them to Denison for meetings and conferences.
  • Coordinate all marketing and tourism efforts with the Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Department, and THF Park.
  • Coordinate group bookings with hotel management to negotiate rates, when necessary, for attendees.
  • Develop and promote vacation and tourism packages to lure visitors to the area.
  • Organize and meet with tourism stakeholders on a regular basis to build effective relationships in support of overall strategies.
  • Plan and prepare regular board meetings and provide financial, marketing and sales reports to the CVB Board, City Council, and City Manager.
  • Work with community partners to create and develop tourism opportunities.
  • Prepare and recommend to the CVB Board, City Council, and City Manager, an annual CVB budget.
  • Represent the CVB at selected industry and community organizations and related meetings and trade shows.
  • Attend state and national tourism conferences to stay current on trends and programs.
