The Landscape Architect is under the general supervision of the Parks Contract & Forestry Manager to oversee development of Parks capital improvement projects and commercial development plan review and site inspection.

This position will help with the implementation of the Parks Master Plan, Parks Asset Management, planting design and future planning projects for the renewal of the City's parks, green belts, streetscapes and trails. This position will also help oversee the comprehensive public open space grounds management and urban forestry program.



Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Communicates with engineers, developers, landscape contractors, landscape architects, and property owners to ensure compliance with the Town’s comprehensive landscape and irrigation regulations.
  • Interacts with commercial property owners/managers involving landscape and irrigation inspections, non-compliance notifications, and reviewing plats and site plans to ensure compliance with park and landscape ordinances.
  • Responds to citizens, officials, and department inquiries and complaints.
  • Evaluates park and recreation facilities, public landscapes and recommends improvements to be made to such facilities.
  • Educates the public/commercial property owners on use of native Texas plant materials emphasizing water conservation and sustainable landscaping techniques.
  • Assists in managing the Town’s urban forest program.
  • Manages grants programs by recommending grant targets, reviewing and proofreading grant applications, preparing grant applications, overseeing the graphic and documentary support compilation accompanying grant applications and presenting candidate projects to grantor organizations when appropriate.
  • Assists in the preparation of annual budgets relating to various Capital Improvement Program projects and monitors expenditures.
  • Conducts research for projects and presentations, and compiles research data for computer entry or oversees data entry.
  • Prepares and presents formal presentations to the City Manager, Development Review Committee, City Council and other boards, commissions and citizen organizations.
  • Performs related duties as required or assigned.


  • Annual salary range: $81,360.24-$97,632.34
  • Competitive compensation package with partially paid Health & Dental Insurance for employee from date of hire.
  • Addison participates in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) with a 7% employee contribution with 14% Town contribution at retirement. Fully vested after 5 years.
  • Optional deferred compensation 457 Plan with Town contribution after new hire trial period.
  • Tuition reimbursement program at 50% of tuition cost.


Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines

Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Arboriculture, or a related field with five to seven years of relevant experience preferred. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relations with fellow employees, Town officials, and outside contracts. Safe driving record. Clear criminal background check and clear pre-employment drug screen.

Knowledge of:

  • Landscape architecture with specific emphasis on park and trail design, construction document preparation and review, construction observation and administration, irrigation plan review, grounds and forestry management.
  • Growth, utilization, and environmental impact of native and non-native trees and other landscaping shrubbery.
  • Development, revision and/or enforcement of Federal, State, regional and City codes, ordinances and regulations related to landscape architecture.

Skill in:

  • Preparing clear and concise reports and other documents.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office, (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point), AutoCad and Adobe Photoshop. Working knowledge of ESRI GIS and SketchUp would also be beneficial.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.

License and Certification Requirements

Valid Texas Driver’s License is required. Registered Landscape Architect in the State of Texas or ability to become registered within two (2) years of date of hire.


This is an exempt position; incumbent will be expected to work whatever hours are necessary to complete responsibilities.


Work is performed in a standard office environment. Work is generally performed indoors in an air-conditioned facility but may also include limited exposure to outside weather conditions.
