The Director of Animal Management & Welfare is responsible for directing and coordinating the animal management and welfare operations within the guidelines of state laws, local ordinances, and City and department policies and procedures.

The City of Amarillo is seeking a creative, enthusiastic, solutions-oriented candidate to serve as its new Director of Animal Management & Welfare. The selected candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in animal science, public administration, or a related field and have a minimum of five years of experience in animal control or public health zoonosis control that includes progressive supervisory experience in both field and shelter operations. Basic Animal Control Certification for the State of Texas & Euthanasia Certification for the State of Texas (required within 120 days of hire), and a valid Texas driver’s license (or the ability to acquire one within 90 days) are required. Animal cruelty investigator experience and zoonosis control education are preferred.
