Description:

Hidden from the big city hustle and bustle, Baytown is one of the Texas Gulf Coast’s best-kept secrets. With a population of approximately 82,000, it is one of the largest cities in the Houston metropolitan area and is located about 30 miles from downtown Houston. The City is currently enjoying tremendous growth brought on by expansions in the energy market.

The City of Baytown is a home rule city operating under a council-manager form of government. Baytown has 1,100 full-time and seasonal employees, an annual FY 2019 budget of $202 million, and provides a full range of municipal services. The Assistant Director of Engineering/Public Works (Capital Projects) is responsible for City of Baytown Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) projects from authorization through acceptance. This includes project design, consultant evaluation, construction cost estimating, specification development, bidding, contract administration, construction oversight, and approval of payments. The Assistant Director is responsible for the supervision of the engineering review of CIP requests and proposals during the annual budget process and directly supervises the full-time staff assigned to the CIP division.

The City of Baytown seeks an experienced, motivated engineering or project management professional to be its Assistant Director of Engineering/Public Works (Capital Projects). The selected candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in construction management, construction science, engineering, architecture, or a related field. The chosen candidate must also have seven years of experience in a related field with three of those years in progressive management and must have knowledge of modern principles and practices of civil engineering and construction. The City prefers a candidate with a Professional Engineer or Project Management Professional certification and familiarity with project management software. A valid Texas driver’s license (or the ability to acquire one within 90 days) with an acceptable driving record is required. The City of Baytown offers a competitive salary range of $86,976 - $115,969 annually depending on qualifications and experience.
