The Position The Public Services Area Administrator is appointed by and reports to the City Administrator’s Office to provide leadership as well as administrative, budgetary, and communications support for five units that provide services for the City of Ann Arbor: the Engineering Unit, the Public Works Unit, the Systems Planning Services Unit, the Wastewater Recovery Unit, and the Water Treatment Service Unit. Education and ExperienceA bachelor’s degree in public or business administration or a related field is required, with a master’s degree preferred. Candidates should have a minimum of seven years of successful local government experience as a department director or administrator in a large organization, as well as significant experience in more than one of the following areas: water quality and water utility operations, especially drinking water and wastewater compliance and quality; multi-modal transportation, especially infrastructure designed for pedestrian safety and walkability; solid waste management and pickup, especially in a downtown setting; and a familiarity with and commitment to implementing sustainable solutions to lower carbon emissions in the municipality and the community.
