The City of Terrell, with a diverse population of about 17,500 and a trade area population of over 250,000, is located 30 miles east of Dallas along Interstate 20 and U.S. Highway 80. Under the direction of the Senior Director of Capital Projects, the City Engineer plans, directs, manages, and oversees the activities and operations of the Engineering Department, including planning, engineering, mapping, capital improvements, and maintenance projects.
The City of Terrell is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented self-starter ready to lead the engineering needs of a fast-growing community. Candidates should be responsive to the community’s needs and should possess knowledge of relevant property, drainage, and land use law; principles and practices of erosion control, soils, floodplain management, and hydrology; standards for public sanitation and water and wastewater management; and construction management practices. They should also have experience directing a comprehensive municipal engineering program, aligning department goals with organizational objectives, analyzing data, and preparing budgets and presentations. The ideal candidate will also have experience with the activities, operations, and management techniques for a municipal airport, managing and motivating professional staff, and researching and analyzing new service delivery techniques.
This position requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering, industrial engineering, or a closely related field. Candidates should also have eight years of increasingly responsible experience in engineering, including four years of administrative and supervisory experience. At least three years as a City Engineer or Assistant City Engineer is highly preferred. Candidates should be licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas or have the ability to obtain their license within six months of their hire date.
